I had 1 Exchange 2010 server with all of the roles installed. I attempted to install a second exchange server 2010 with only the mailbox role. The plan was to set up DAG for a real time backup. The install failed on the mailbox role and the server basically became useless. The original server saw the new exchange server but could not connect to it. I tried to uninstall from add/remove programs and that failed as well. Not many options left at this point for getting it fully removed. I wiped the server clean I was installing on since there was nothing on it besides this second copy of exchange I was planning on using. I then proceeded to remove secondary server and its database (which was created on install apparently) from ADSI Edit. I also removed the machine from all of the groups within active directory. Everything seems ok now. But I just want to make sure I am not going to have any problems in the future. My plan is to get Microsoft involved on my next attempt at installing the second exchange server on the same hardware.
