MS Exchange Suspended Emails

$

Hi,

Kindly assist me. I have about 4,000 suspended emails in in MS Exchange 2010 queue. Some are retrying and others are just in suspended state. When I try to suspend them with NDR, they are not disappearing. This has caused us to have delays in delivery of our emails to clients and other business partners. I have tried even to run a cmdlet as below below but nothing is working.

Remove-Message -Server -Server -Filter {FromAddress -eq "suspended"} -WithNDR $false

Could it be that my system is compromised or what? I have tried to scan my system with eset and it did find some viruses but they have been removed now. They system resources are just fine. RAM and HDD are all fine. Kindly assist.

Migration from 1 domain to another (in relation to Exchange)

$

Hi, hoping someone can give me an opinion on the best way to carry out this task as it's quite a big project. I've read various articles on technet and other blogs, but I'm not sure if this is even possible with the versions of Exchange involved. Details below:

  • We are carrying out a domain centralisation project - merging from an external forest (Domain B for example purposes) into another Forest (target Domain A). I will be using ADMT to carry out the account, group migrations etc and will include SID history when doing so.
  • There is a two way external trust between the domains.
  • Domain B (source domain) has it's own Exchange 2010 environment. The target domain is on Exchange 2003 SP2.
  • Once I have migrated the accounts, is there any Exchange tools or methods for me to ensure that the migrated accounts can still access their Exchange mailboxes (with the domain trust still in place)?

As mentioned earlier I will be migrating SID history to ensure no disruption with access to resources, I have read that this would also be needed to ensure users can still access their original mailboxes in the source domain. Eventually we will be migrating the mailboxes from old domain to new but this is phase 2 of the project (either by PST import or however this can be done, that will need to be thought about later...).

Any advice on how I can make sure the migrated users can still access their mailboxes and what I need to do, would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Sarah

Cannot change password on owa logg in screen

Hi

We have Exchange 2010. Two servers with KEMP loadbalancer. Also have TMG.

I would like my users to be able to change their password at owa log in if it has expired or if they just want to change it before it expires.

I have made the ChangeExpiredPasswordEnabled in the regestry and restarted IIS.

Anything else i can do to make this work?

Best regards

Matthias

Dynamic Distribution List - Anyone ever gotten 'memberofgroup' to work with the 'like' operator? I can only do "-eq" with success.

We have some AD groups that I can successfully pull into a recipient filter if I use the "-eq" operator. Thing is, there are now more groups and it seems like there is a limit to how many groups you can add.

So, I thought a wildcard would make it cleaner and negate the size limitation, whatever that may be. Thing is, I cannot get it to work when just testing.

This works:

get-recipient -RecipientPreviewFilter {(memberofgroup -eq 'CN=MyADGroupInMN,OU=Groups,OU=MN,OU=SomeCompany,DC=PartyTown,DC=org')}

This does not:

 get-recipient -RecipientPreviewFilter {(memberofgroup -like 'CN=MyADGroupIn*')}

I've tried about every variation of the above. According to this article you should be able to use the 'like' operator, but I'll be damned if I can find an example using 'memberofgroup.'

Undeliverable Messages Coming Back Randomly

$

Just in the last week, we've had a handful of users receive bounce back messages saying they were not delivered. Generally, it will tell you what the issue is (user does not exist, attachment too large, etc.) but this one is no help. It is happening to internal and external emails. If the user gets the bounce back, closes Outlook, reopens Outlook and then tries sending it, it seems to go through. Below is the error in the Undeliverable reply. I don't see any errors in the Event Viewer on the Exchange Server. I've rebooted it but we're still having it occur.

'Receipient Name' on 1/2/2015 2:40 PM

This message could not be sent. Try sending the message again later, or contact your network administrator.  Error is [0x80004005-00000000-00000000].

Free Busy takes over 30 seconds to retrieve on Outlook 2010 using Exchange Server 2010

We have a small 100 user domain running Exchange server 2010 and outlook 2010 clients.  The issue is that Retrieving Free/Busy takes over 30 seconds.

So someone is trying to schedule a meeting has to wait Minutes see the Free/busy time for many users..  I have checked and all the users in question have published at least one month free busy time.

It seems it would be much faster.  Anyone have this same experience and know of a way to speed it up?

thanks in Advance

At some point overnight one of my databases was dismounted and is showing 0 kb in the file. Fails to mount. I believe to have all of the log files. I'm in the process now of copying all of the current folder from that database to an external drive.</p><p>I also have an old backup using the Dell AppAssure backup software. How can I get this database up and running so people can at least start working again. I'm hoping to eventually be able to restore email from not to the backup date using the log files.</p><p>Really need some help with this.

When I try to run eseutil /mh i get the following:

This may have happenned due to a corrupted database header. Explicitly setting a page size might bypass this failure.

Mailbox Database drive growth issue

$

I could use some help. We are running Exchange 2010 and we have 6 databases on 1 drive. Recently, that drive is growing very fast. It has used over 100GB in about 7 days. We have 1300 users, and the average mailbox size is 250MB. Nothing is really jumping out as me as an issue (other than the amount of space being used). Each database has a recoverdeleteditemrentention of 30GB with a warning of 20GB. I believe that is the default, and not sure if that's too high.

When I run the command get-mailboxdatabase and look at the "availablenewmailboxspace", all databases have less than 30MB each, which explains they are growing, but not sure why it's slow.

Our mailbox retention policies are working.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated

Exchange 2007 Supplied Credentials invalid

I was asked to create a mailbox for the legal dept at work. I did it but, I had to tinker with the exchange/domain controller servers a bit as I am really not that experienced with them. But now, when my boss logs in under the administration account he gets this error whenever he tries to open anything in the exchange management console. The "running command" part of the error differs depending on what operation he is trying to do. He has asked me to fix it and I'm really in over my head with this stuff.
Active Directory operation failed on Dc.dialsound.com. The supplied credential for 'DSMAIL\Administrator' on
Bind operation is invalid. Error Code: 0x31. It was running command 'get-recipient -ResultSize '1000' -SortBy
'DisplayName' -RecipientType 'UserMailbox'

Search-Mailbox kind:contacts - Keyword options?

$

I'm looking for a way to copy contacts from all users, but only contacts from a specific company. The surest way to identify that company would be their email domain. The next option may be searching the company name. I can't seem to make either of those work, with the error "The property keyword isn't supported.".

I see the keyword list shown here:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232132(v=exchg.141).aspx#AQS, but that is very small list that doesn't contain any contact related fields. I guess I was hoping that this was only a supplemental list rather than the full list.

Get-Mailbox -database "my mailbox database" | Search-Mailbox -TargetMailbox specificmailbox -TargetFolder specificfolder -SearchQuery 'kind:contacts AND emailaddress1:"%specificdomain.com"'

That fails, as does changing the emailaddress1 keyword to anything else that I can think of, and / or removing the wildcard (%).  Seems like I can only extract ALL contacts.

Any tricks?

exchange powershell script not working in task scheduler

$

I have been trying to get a basic task to work in task scheduler and I have submitted the -noexit switch for troubleshooting purposes.

C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -version 2.0 -noexit -command ". 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin\RemoteExchange.ps1'; Connect-ExchangeServer -auto"

Before the closing quote (right after -auto at the end), I put in a command to get information on the mailbox databases and then pipe them out to a csv file.  When I added the -noexit switch to see why it wasn't working, I saw that what is happening is the ems window launches and after it finishes connecting to an exchange server, but before it launches the prompt, it runs the script, so it runs the script, then has the prompt on the following line, waiting for a command.  I tried putting in a sleep command, but I just end up with a line with the sleep command, then the command for the script, then the prompt.  I tried extending the sleep command, but it made no difference.  I still get the same results.  Any ideas?

Load Balancer & Receive Connectors

$

Hi,

I am running Exchange 2010 SP3 and have two CAS servers load balanced using an F5 load balancer.

I have setup a Receive Connector for an Application server and set the message size to 50MB.

The limit on the Default Connector is 10MB.

No limits are set on the Send Connector.

When I send a 25MB mail from the application I get a bounce saying "mail exceeded limit"

When I view the mail in Message Tracking I can see that the mail leaves the application server, then hits the floating IP address of the load balancer then Exchange, because Exchange is receiving the mail from the IP address of the load balancer it receives it through the default receive connector rather than the newly created receive connector.

I have also tested this with Windows NLB on my text environment and  get the exact same issue.

Is there any way to get around this ?
