So shortly I'll be moving 4 users from SBS 2003 to SBS 2011. We host our exchange on-site and keep a lot of email. Currently our Exchange DB is 10-12GB down from 23 GB after some archiving and defragging.
So because I only have 4 users I have contemplated just archiving their current mailboxes and unarchiving on the new server vs a full migration.
But I really have 2 questions about moving from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.
1. Messages that are addressed to multiple users in our current system and may have large file attachments are only stored in the DB 1 time, with pointers, correct? So would "moving" the users break this and represent a large attachment multiple times (one for each user) in the new DB on Exch 2010? Would it make a differences if they were "moved" or Archived/unarchived as a method of getting them to the new mailbox?
2. I've heard bad things about "moving users" lots of things can go wrong, moves fail users get stuck. Would I have to perform a "migration"? Since I'm not really using any other SBS items, it would in fact be easier for me to set up the new SBS 2011 stand alone, new Domain etc, get everything working, then just archive/unarchive the 4 users email than it would to go through a migration and have to deal with all the possible pitfalls (unless you tell me differently), but I don't want to make my Exchange DB huge because I lost "pointers" to attachments vs duplicated attachments or missed some other important aspect of a migration.
Thoughts? Would really like to know if I'm off base with the "non migration" route, or if because I have such a small environment it makes sense. I don't even plan on having the users lot into the server any more, just map a drive for shared files and connect to exchange for email. I've been doing that with my windows 7 worktation on the old SBS 2003 server for over a year and I'm not having any troubles.

A lot of users are reporting that they are getting a lot of items in the conflicts folder of the Sync Issues folder. There doesn't seem to be any link with the items, however some of them do not appear with the mailtip about duplicates - it just looks like the item has been moved there.
Since there are a lot of these items, I am looking on some advice on what to do with them. Some users have hundreds, and it would be impractical for them to check each and every item. Is there a way to clear these centrally?
Also, I want to understand what the Sync Issue folders actually do, as I can't find a great amount of documentation for them.
We are running Outlook 2010 SP2 with Exchange 2010 SP3UR8v2. We also use iManage Work v9 (which may complicate things - I don't know).
hi,
does anyone have experience running large kql queries in new-mailboxsearch? i've read the: Keyword Query Language (KQL) syntax reference: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ee558911.aspx and the Message properties and search operators for In-Place eDiscovery: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn774955(v=exchg.150).aspx
i can't find an example chaining several values together when you use the NOT operator. ex- NOT property:(value OR value)
the below command returns correctly:
New-MailboxSearch -LogLevel full -Name testname3-SourceMailboxes mb1 -TargetMailbox mb2 -SearchQuery "Sent:(9/13/2015..9/14/2015 00:00:00) body:('problem service' OR '1/0/0' OR 'alert*') NOT from:('alert@domain.com')
but it only has one value for the NOT property. i can't figure out how to chain several NOT from addresses together. The below returns messages where the From property should caused the search to have excluded them.
New-MailboxSearch -LogLevel full -Name testname3-SourceMailboxes mb1 -TargetMailbox mb2 -SearchQuery "Sent:(9/13/2015..9/14/2015 00:00:00) body:('problem service' OR '1/0/0' OR 'alert*') NOT from:('alert@domain.com' OR 'alert2@domain.com')"
This command returns the same results as the one right above.
New-MailboxSearch -LogLevel full -Name testname4 -SourceMailboxes mb1 -TargetMailbox mb2 -SearchQuery "Sent:(9/13/2015..9/14/2015 00:00:00) body:('problem service' OR '1/0/0' OR 'alert*') NOT from:('alert@domain.com') NOT from:('alert2@domain.com')"
can someone help?
thanks!
Hello,
For our new server (Win2008 + Exchange2010) we purchased a SAN certificate from GlobalSign. Trying to install and activate the certificate I messed up the process, because for creation I used the shell and for installation I could not figure out how, so I created a dummy one with EMC wizard and somehow the process did not go smoothly and it refused to assign services. Eventually I deleted the certificate using EMC hoping to reinstall. Now I am stuck in the process:
Trying to import I am getting this:

Exchange Management Shell command completed:

Error:

Exchange Management Shell command attempted:
Import-ExchangeCertificate -Server 'Baal' -FileData '<Binary Data>' -Password 'System.Security.SecureString' -PrivateKeyExportable $true

But if I check it I am getting the following:

The certificate with thumbprint B085D22ECE5727AADD04890D1301A2A7DEE1F4BA was found but is not valid for use with Exchan

+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [Get-ExchangeCertificate], InvalidOperationException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : 794BD1AB,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.SystemConfigurationTasks.GetExchangeCertificate

So my question is: how to clear the mess and get the certificate installed?
Thanks

Hello all,
I need some help moving calendar appointments from a user mailbox to a room mailbox. I'd prefer to do it through a GUI because I'm not as strong in Powershell, but if that's my only option I think I can manage.
Here's the back story: Originally we had conference rooms setup with user mailboxes, but we recently moved offices and the plan is to wipe them and start fresh with room mailboxes (new room names too). So currently in my EMC I have user mailboxes acting as conference room calendars that we are currently booking to. Today, I created the new room mailboxes and tested them, working great, but I'd like to transfer all the appointments from the old user mailboxes to the new room mailboxes.
Is anyone able to help me with this?
Thanks,
Emily
Hi
I am trying to appropriately scope out the exchange impersonation role to 1 account that can only have impersonate permissions to a group of users. Is this possible?
I ask as it is impossible for me to group a specific number users together as it stands so I cant use search bases for OU or common names.
I have been reading the articles but it only tells me how to use search bases based on OU location or a persons name both of which are not desirable in my scenario.
Thanks
We are having problems when trying to install Exchange 2010 SP3 Roll up 10. I'm getting the following error
“Product: Microsoft Exchange Server - Update 'Update Rollup 10 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3 (KB3049853) 14.3.248.2' could not be installed. Error code 1603.”
I get the same error when I try other Roll Ups for SP3. I have also tried:

Hello Guyz,
Here is my question:
I have 2 mailbox servers:
1) Server 1 with time zone: (UTC) Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London
2) Server 2 with time zone: (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada).
Whenever any email sent from server 1 to server 2 or vice-versa requesting a read receipt then I am always getting read receipt in (UTC) Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London time zone.
Note: Both the users sending/receiving the email have never logged in to OWA.
I am usingExchange Server 2010 SP3 RU9.
Please tell me what changes I should do to get the respective server time zone.
Thanks!!
Hi all,
I have an Exchange DAG with 4 Mailbox servers, 6 CAS/HUB divided in 3 NLB (Europe/China/US), and 1 CAS for Outlook Anywhere (OWA).
I have 16 Mailbox DB (4 for Europe, 4 for China, 4 for US) in the DAG, all replicated.
OOF is working fine everywhere (directly connected to internal CAS and also from external connected to OWA), except if my mailbox if hosted on US DB AND if i'm connected from outside (so with Outlook anywhere):
in this case, when in Outlook I want to set OOF, I receive an error message "server is not available". If I connect directly to OWA using my browser, I can set OOF, it works.
if I move my mailbox to another DB hosted in Europe, it works using outlook anywhere. SO the problem looks reallyn linked to the site in US..
But I really don't get it... any ideas please?
Thx
We are running Exchange 2010 SP1
We are having an issue were some messages sent to one public folder gets delivered to another public folder. I wanted to use the message tracking web interface but it doesn't look like it supports public folders. That is it will not resolve any of my public folder names. How do I get a glimps as to what is happening to these messages?
Good Afternoon,
I have a user that wants to move 1000's of e-mails from a public folder location to a file share. I was wondering if there is a way to map a drive to the specific folders like \\servername\publicfoldername\.... if not what are the recommended best practices for migrating mass amounts of mail out of those folders? (PST's are not an option due to restrictions)
Thanks
I have a Exchange Server 2010 that was joined into Exchange 2003 organization. Originally there was Exchange 2003 and I migrated to Exchange 2010 aprox 2 years ago.
Everything was working but when I ran the Analyzer the Exchange Server 2003 was still trying to be analyed.
I was trying to cleanup the errors that I was getting using ADSI Edit and I messed up something.
The Public Folders are nowhere to be found after I removed them using ADSIEDIT.
In removing the BIOMAIL server, I drilled into the ASDIedit.msc
Open ADSIEdit.msc then connect to Configuration partition:
CN-Services -> CN-Microsoft Exchange -> CN-Domain -> CN-Administrative Groups -> CN-First Administrative Group CN-> Servers
Deleted old server from there.
Sometime after my users starting telling they did not have access to the PUBLIC FOLDERS....
Very Concerned, Need some help!!!
The Public folders.EDB (About 19 gigs in size) and I have the files for the database is still on the server, but I do not have "Public Folders Database" when I connect in outlook.
I not exactly sure how to recover?
Please advise on the best recovery process.
I have a APPASURE Backup solution as well.
I have a snap shot of the Analyzer but cannot add the sanp shot until; I have been verified.

Hi, Guys / Andy / Rhoderick.
Good Day!
Need your assistance on this.
Is there a way to identify all corrupted/invalid mailboxes created in your Exchange environment via EMS or EMC? Please advise.
Thank you.

Hello All,
I have an Exchange 2010 DAG stretched to a DR Site. I recently had a raid controller fail on the DR server and it was down for a couple of days and replication is trying to catch up now. All seems to be going well, albeit slowly due to a congested pipe, except for one DB. The copy queue length continues to rise while the others decrease. I checked the copy status and the content Index is in a failed state on that particular DB. Is the reason for this DB's queue length continuing to increase due to the failed state - and is it safe to update the catalogueonly on a congested pipe with a queue length of 57000? Thanks for any help/advice.
