Hi

We've been encountering an issue whereby Exchange temporarily loses connectivity with the local site's GC/DC (2008R2), resulting in Exchange connectivity issues. When this happens, AD is unresponsive on the DC, but system performance and other applications are normal.

Below are the Event IDs, running Exchange 2010 14.03.0361.001:

Event ID 2080:

Process MAD.EXE (PID=2112). Exchange Active Directory Provider has discovered the following servers with the following characteristics:
(Server name | Roles | Enabled | Reachability | Synchronized | GC capable | PDC | SACL right | Critical Data | Netlogon | OS Version)
In-site:
ABC1.localCDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 1
 Out-of-site:
ABC2.localCDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 1
ABC3.localCDG 1 7 7 1 0 1 1 7 1

Event ID 2084:

Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=1348). No Domain Controller server is up in the local site 'CORRECT-SITE-NAME'. Exchange Active Directory Provider will use the following out of site Domain Controller servers:
ABC2.LOCAL
ABC3.LOCAL

Event ID 2085:

Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=4216). No Global Catalog server is up in the local site 'CORRECT-SITE-NAME'. Exchange Active Directory Provider will use the following out of site global catalog servers:
ABC2.LOCAL
ABC3.LOCAL

It only occurs in the morning-early afternoon when most staff are logging in/accessing mail.

Any ideas on how to start troubleshooting this are much appreciated!

Exchange 2010 Database Size Issue

Hi Team,

I have created anew database using the EMC. Now I want to change the size of the database, so followed the standard way by getting the GUID of the database by using the below cmdlet:

Get-MailboxDatabase -Identity "<server name>\<database name>" | Format-Table Name,GUID

And then went into Registry in the below path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\<server name>
\Private-<database GUID>

Found that the subkey "Database Size in GB" was not exisiting, hence created a new DWORD and passed on 5 as valueas Hexadecimal type and restarted the Exchange Information Stre service.

But, was still not able to see the changes in Size when ran the powershell command:

Get-MailboxDatabase -Identity "database1" -Status | Select Databasesize

The answer is still 8.08MB

I knwo Exchange 2010 is out of support, but still having a ray of hope over here, kindly suggest if anything is missed or anything needs to be done?

Thanks,

Naveen

Exchange 2010 OWA Users cannot change passwords

Good Afternoon,

We have an Exchange 2010 environment that has been running for the better part of 7 years without any issues related to OWA and changing passwords.  The necessary regedits have been implemented and nothing has changed (except for Windows Updates) since it was set up.  Within the last 30 days our users have been unable to change their passwords when they expire or even before they expire.  They are receiving the error, "The Username or Password is incorrect, please try again".  We are on Exchange 2010 SP3 running on a Windows Server 2008.

Any ideas what may have happened to the environment to make this start happening?  Any help is much appreciated!

get-publicfolder send-as permission ....

Hello.  Thanks for the time and effort.

I was wondering if there is a way to export the send as permissions for all public folders?  I know it is possible to do it on a one by one basis.

get-adpermission -identity publicfolder | ? {($_.ExtendedRights -like "*send-as*") -and -not ($_.User -like "n
t authority\self")} | ft Identity,User > c:\folder\publicfolder.txt

How do I do put in there entire public folder tree?  and export it out for each public folder?

thanks.

Outlook 2010 - Attendees do not see "Sent on Behalf of..." header when Delegated User creates Meetings in Calendar

Hi everyone,

I have encountered an unusual issue in Outlook 2010 for my Organisation whereby a User has been delegated Send on Behalf permission for a colleague, yet Outlook will not show that a Appointment or Meeting was setup on their colleague's behalf when the notification is sent to Meeting attendees in Calendar. Only the colleague's name will appear as with Send As access instead of the standard "X on behalf of Y" header

I have checked EMC 2010 and the User has NOT been granted Send As Permission to their Colleague's account. The User has been granted Send on Behalf permission via Mail Flow Settings > Delivery Options > Send on Behalf. The User also has Full Access permission to their Colleague's account. Furthermore the Colleague has granted User Editor access to their Calendar directly.

To complicate matters, the User also has Send on Behalf access to another colleague's account setup exactly as stated above, yet the "X on behalf of Y" headerdoes appear for Attendees in notices they receive for meetings the User books in the second colleague's Calendar.

I'm a bit stumped as to what else could be reconfigured in either EMC/Outlook 2010 so any assistance is appreciated

Thanks

exchange 2010 and outlook365

I have an outlook365 client on the local network trying to connect to an exchange 2010 server that has a *.local domain name.  The server is correctly setup to use a *.com external domain name with the DNS records and autoconnect.domain.com setup and functioning and passing their tests using the MS connectivity analyzer website.  The internal and the external server addresses for exchange ecp/owa/activesync were all changed to the server.com address and this functions fine for earlier versions of outlook.

For some reason, the outlook365 client with the local (haven't tested it remotely) network connection is connecting to internal-server.local address when I view the connection status window in outlook.  This "works", but it is causing outlook to constantly ask for username/password to be re-entered.

Do we just need to stick with an old outlook program or can the user keep using outlook365.  Eventually the exchange2010 server is going away, but not soon enough.

How to recover mailbox from .edb file?

I usually use DPM 2012 to restore mailboxes, but I have a request for someone who left months ago so I only have the VM backup. I can restore the .vhd that the .edb resides on. How can I restore the mailbox from this .edb without conflicting with my production .edb?

Importing contacts into Outlook 2010

Ive read tho other related topics and found no answer.  In all previous versions of Outlook I have been able to export contact data from my accounting software as Tab separated values and then import the data into Outlook.  This does not work now.  When I get the the mapping section Outlook displays the tab separated file without separations,  all fields are one field.  I see no option to import from an Excell 2010 file into Outlook 2010,  and Comma separated file csv. is not recognized at all.  What can I do?  5000+ contacts are easily imported into FileMaker Pro no matter what the format why can't Microsoft get it right?  Newer versions of software should be easier to work with!

Which ActiveX Control for Outlook Web App?

$

If I set the GPO "Deny all add-ons unless specifically allowed in the Add-on List", I cannot use Outlook Web App (Exchange 2010) unless I use the light interface.  I do not see any disabled ActiveX controls inside the IE user interface so I am guessing it might be a Browser Helper Object.  I do not see anything in the user interface for IE11 for looking for BHOs.  Has anyone located which ActiveX control that IE is trying to load so it can be whitelisted?

Error after logon to webmail:

"The ActiveX control needs to be enabled in Internet Explorer for Outlook Web App to work correctly. Click here to sign out, enable the ActiveX control, and then sign in to Outlook Web App."
